February Issue — Checksum Correction & PRG Downloads Now Available
Hey everyone — Edwin here from COMPUTE!'s Gazette.
First, a sincere thank you to everyone who reached out after receiving the February 2026 issue. You spotted something we need to address head-on: some of the Automatic Proofreader checksums printed in this issue are incorrect. The error crept in during the final layout and proofing process, and we take full responsibility. This is exactly the kind of thing we work hard to prevent, and we're sorry it slipped through.
Here's what happened: the checksum codes appearing alongside certain program listings do not match what the Automatic Proofreader v3.0 will actually display on-screen when you type those lines. If you've been pulling your hair out trying to reconcile the two — you're not crazy, the magazine is wrong.
The fix: We've compiled and verified .PRG downloads for every C64 type-in program in the February issue into a .D64 file. If you'd rather load the programs directly than type them in, or just want to verify what a correct entry looks like, you can grab them right here. We're also posting corrected checksum tables below
We'll be implementing additional QA steps to prevent this from happening in future issues. Your trust means everything to us, and we know that correct, reliable listings are a cornerstone of what COMPUTE!'s Gazette has always stood for.
Thanks for your patience, and happy computing.
